Belt disc sanders play a key-role in a woodworking shop. It's two tools in one. The disc is great for precise edge work, like fitting miter joints and trueing outside curves. The belt allows you to flatten faces and edges, shape contours and smooth inside curves.

These sanders are for surface or edge sanding of nonmetallic materials only. It can used for rough, end grain sanding and simple shaping. The combination belt/disc sander is configured with a sanding disc and belt and some may be individual units. The Edge belt sander will typically have only a belt but may oscillate vertically and have one or more worktables attached. The safety concepts presented are the same for any size machine.
